DOING SOME SELF CARE

#APostIsNotEnough
Recent protests and political movements – online and on our streets – have proven that gender-based violence still plagues our country. Likewise, the shame attached to seeking help is stubborn and pervasive.
The education, resources, and services available around themes of consent and sexual safety are still so inadequate in reversing Australia's rape culture problem.
We don't want these efforts to lose traction, or the work of survivors to be minimised to a fleeting online movement. That's how and why we created Making Noise.

We're a group of friends and activists – led and inspired by a survivor –who have decided #APostIsNotEnough.
On October 21, we are running an event – a celebration of women who have experienced sexual violence - for their bravery and tenacity. The night will be filled with live performances, silent auctions with 100% of the profits going to Full Stop Australia (FSA) and Centre Against Sexual Assault (CASA).

We will be involving a range of advocates, artists and speakers and will be offering discrete opportunities to connect and engage in counselling services.
Access Key
At Making Noise, we are committed to making this event as inclusive and accessible for as possible so everyone can enjoy and celebrate. We are consistently open to learning how to make our event more accessible for all disabled people, but we do acknowledge given the nature of the event that we will not be able to meet everyone's access needs. We absolutely welcome your feedback on how we can improve the accessibility of Making Noise.
Please let us know how we can do better by emailing makingnoiseau@gmail.com.
Most importantly, we honour all the disabled women who have experienced gender-based violence at a disproportionate rate.
We believe you. We celebrate your brilliance.

Mobility device friendly
The venue has ramps to get in and out of the venue, as well as wheelchair accessible bathrooms. Please note that the venue the street is on is cobblestone. There are plenty of seats and couches to sit on.

Lighting
The venue will be low lit, with mood lighting created my lightbulb fixtures from the ceilings, yellow and pink up-lights against the walls and fairy lights throughout. Please note that there will be flashes of light throughout due to photography.

Noise
There will be lots of loud noises throughout the night including music from live perfomances, people talking and laughing, and music on the speakers. You are able to go outside to have a bit of quiet, but you will still be able to hear the music.

Ventilation
The venue is properly ventilated, with large industrial gates being open throughout the night. You are more than welcome to wear a mask! You can also go outside if you need a moment from sensory overload and get some fresh air.

Interpreters
There will be an Auslan interpeter present for the performance section of the night for Auslan users.

OUR PERFORMERS

Madeleine Heather (she/her)
EmCee for Making Noise
Madeleine - but you can call her Madi - is a feminist, activist, survivor of child sexual assault and creator and host of the podcast Reclaim Me.
Reclaim Me is a podcast where survivors of abuse and trauma can tell their stories freely, reclaiming their voice, reclaiming the narrative, and reclaiming control.
With the vision, that all victim survivors have the freedom to tell their story; and through doing so, will provide valuable insight and education, destigmatising assault and breaking down the many barriers experienced by survivors.
We wish to express our deep gratitude to our sponsors, Marque Lawyers and Mettles, for making a difference in society by supporting grassroots initiatives. We also wish to thank all of the the people who gave what they could, out of the sheer goodness of their heart and the hope of a future free of gender-based violence.
This night would not be possible without all of your support.
